4 A large number of people take part in a rally calling for a timetable for introducing universal suffrage. The Chief Executive says the Administration and Central Government are clearly aware of the community's aspirations and are actively leading the community towards universal suffrage in accordance with the Basic Law.
5 The Administration accepts the report submitted by the Education Commission on the medium of instruction for secondary schools and secondary school places allocation review.
9 The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, attends the Asia-Europe Meeting Prosecutors-General Conference in Shenzhen.
13 At the opening session of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Hong Kong Ministerial Conference, the chairman of the conference and Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, urges members to agree on a clear roadmap to push forward the Doha Development Agenda.
17 Disturbances break out in Wan Chai despite the ample arrangements to facilitate demonstrations during the WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference. The Police have to take enforcement action to restore law and order.
18 The WTO Hong Kong Ministerial Conference closes and, at a press conference, the chairman, Mr John Tsang, outlines the major achievements of the Hong Kong Ministerial Declaration.
21 Government's proposed package on 2007-08 electoral arrangements is put to the Legislative Council for a vote. Thirty-four members vote in support of the package, 24 against, with one abstention. Although more than half of the members support the package, it falls short of the two-thirds majority support required in the Basic Law.

AsiaWorld-Expo at Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong's largest exhibition and events complex, is officially opened.
22 In a 1 am press briefing, the Chief Executive says he regrets that the Government has failed to secure the required two-thirds majority support from lawmakers even though the majority of the public supports the electoral package. As a result, the existing electoral arrangements will continue to apply in the 2007-08 elections. He also says that the Commission on Strategic Development will follow up the issue of setting a timetable for universal suffrage.
27 The Chief Executive pays a two-day duty visit to Beijing during which he briefs President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao on the latest social, economic and political developments in Hong Kong.
