1 The Chief Executive hosts a National Day reception at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to mark the 56th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
5 The Chief Secretary for Administration, as the President of Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong) of the Beijing Organising Committee for the Games of the 29th Olympiad, chairs the first meeting of the committee.

11 BMX cycle racer Steven Wong wins a gold medal for Hong Kong at the 10th National Games in Nanjing, the first of four medals won by the Hong Kong delegation.
12 In his inaugural Policy Address, the Chief Executive pledges to secure a 'people-based' government which promises excellent governance, a harmonious community and economic growth.

The Chief Executive announces that the CPG has given in-principle approval to extend the scope of renminbi business in Hong Kong. The People's Bank of China announces the relevant details in November.

The Financial Secretary leads a Hong Kong delegation to San Francisco for a joint promotion with Guangdong Province.
18 The Financial Secretary and the Vice-Minister of Commerce, Mr Liao Xiaoqi, signs the legal text of the third phase of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.
19 The Government introduces a package of proposals for selecting the Chief Executive in 2007 and forming the Legislative Council in 2008.
20 The Chief Executive announces that Mr Wong Yan Lung SC replaces
Ms Elsie Leung as the Secretary for Justice.
22 The Chief Executive departs on a week-long tour of North America to update key partners on Hong Kong's progress. He visits Vancouver, New York and Washington where he meets political and business leaders.
27 The Government announces the endorsement of plans to redevelop Ocean Park into a world-class, marine-themed attraction.

The Financial Secretary leaves Hong Kong to attend the Beijing-Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium in Beijing and activities of the Hubei-Hong Kong Week in Wuhan.
30 The Government unveils a more-than-one-billion construction and upgrading programme for sports venues and facilities for the 2009 East Asian Games to be hosted by Hong Kong.
