Introduction
Print
2004 was a major 'clean-up' year for the
whole of Hong Kong as black spots were
identified and cleaned of debris and
stagnant water in the fight against
mosquitoes spreading dengue fever, while
the threat of avian influenza returning to
Hong Kong spawned increased awareness
of personal and environmental hygiene.

In the face of new challenges and potential hazards arising from the changing environment and the use of new technology, the Government has devoted much effort to ensuring that the food the community consumes is safe and that quality environmental hygiene and veterinary services are in place to provide a living environment comparable to other major international cities. It is also the Government's policy objective to facilitate the sustainable development of the agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture industries.
