The Summer Youth Programme is a large-scale community building programme which provides a variety of activities in the summer vacation for children and young people aged from six to 25. The 2005 slogan was 'Creativity and Vitality in Action', and the focus was on sports, cultural and art activities to inspire and enhance the self-confidence and creativity of young people. In addition, all-round development training programmes were organised to help young people equip themselves to meet different challenges in the ever-changing and competitive world.

In 2005, over 13 000 activities were organised, and more than 1.5 million youngsters took part. The total cost was about $50 million of which $18 million was donated by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust Fund and the balance covered by subvention from the Government and District Councils, private donations and participants' fees.
