1a Space
1a Space is one of the
leading visual arts organisations in Hong
Kong. It aims to nurture and support young
local artists and promote visual arts
through education workshop and tours.
In 2005, it organised cultural exchange
projects which focused on women's art
and a series of photography exhibitions.
Artist Commune
Artist Commune was established
in 1997. It is devoted to the establishment
of a new Asian art network with Hong Kong
as the centre. In 2005, it organised activities
including the Hong Kong Art Promoting
Programme, 'CATTLE — Can All The
Tenants Laugh Efficiently' and 'Hong Kong
sCULpTURE and the International (USA)
Artist-In-Residency Programme.
Asia Art Archive
Incorporated in 2000,
the Asia Art Archive (AAA) is the first
centre in Hong Kong dedicated to documenting
and cataloguing materials related to contemporary
Asian art for public access through its
library, online database and website.
It organises a variety of activities including
talks, research tours, publication and
workshops to further raise awareness and
enhance understanding of contemporary
local and regional arts. In 2005, activities
included the first workshop in Asia which
focused on issues of documentation and
archiving contemporary regional art with
over 30 international participants; participation
in the prestigious Art Basel; launch of
the AAA Martell Research Grant for contemporary
Asian art and the co-organisation of a
symposium in conjunction with the Guangzhou
Triennial as the first of a series focused
on the Pearl River Delta.
Hong Kong Society
for Education in Art
The Hong Kong Society
for Education in Art was established in
1982. It promotes the development of visual
arts education in schools and in the community.
In 2005, the society initiated and organised
a number of workshops, talks and the Guangzhou
Art Education Exchange Visit, and published
Hong Kong Art Education (Issue 1,
2, 3) and Interview with 10 Art Educators
volume III.
Para/Site Art Space
Para/Site Art Space
is a non-profit-making art organisation
founded in 1996 by a group of independent
artists in Hong Kong. Para/Site aims to
promote contemporary art through its annual
programmes of exhibitions and seminars
and the publication of catalogues and
PS magazine, Hong Kong's only bilingual
visual arts publication. It also manages
another exhibition space — Para/Site
Central, the smallest exhibition venue
in Hong Kong hosted by Hanart TZ Gallery
in Central. Previously an artist-run
space, in 2005 Para/Site Art Space recruited
Tobias Berger as the executive director
and curator. Within a short time of his
arrival, he organised a number of well-received
exhibitions — 'Power Plays', presenting
three decades of influential international
and local performance art videos; 'A Life
that Changes Your Week' featuring renowned
media artist Christian Jankowski and 'Irreality',
a multi-media installation exhibition
by local and Pearl River Delta artists. |
