The Government Flying
Service (GFS) is a disciplined service
department. It provides the community
of Hong Kong with a wide range of flying
services, including round-the-clock search
and rescue coverage and casualty and medical
evacuation, fire fighting and support
for law enforcement agencies and other
government departments. The GFS has an establishment
of 169 disciplined and 59 civilian personnel
and operates an aircraft fleet of two
fixed-wing aeroplanes and seven helicopters.
In 2005, it flew a total of 5 818
hours, assisted in 420 search and rescue
operations and transported 1 379
patients to hospital by helicopter. The
auxiliary flying doctors and nurses flew
a total of 428 hours in 542 operations.
The GFS also flew 6 885 government
officers and official visitors in the
course of their duties or programmes. |
