Planning Studies

Studies completed by the Planning Department during the year included: the Feasibility Study for the Establishment of an Air Ventilation Assessment System; the Study on Provision of Elderly Housing; Landscape Value Mapping of Hong Kong; and the Study on the Development of an Employment Projection Model for Strategic Land Use Planning. The department also completed several surveys, namely, the Survey on Shopping Habits; the Survey on Occupancy of Recently Completed Housing Units, the Commercial and Industrial Floor-space Utilisation Survey and the 2004 Supplementary Survey of Cross-boundary Travel.

Ongoing studies by the Planning Department include Hong Kong 2030: Planning Vision and Strategy; the Study on Planning for Pedestrians; Kai Tak Planning Review; the Area Improvement Plan for Tsim Sha Tsui — Feasibility Study; the Study to Examine Ways to Centralise and Disseminate Planning Data, and the Survey on the Propensity to Use Private Cars to Cross the Boundary 2005.

The department also worked with other government departments on several major development proposals/studies, notably, the Central Reclamation Phase III; Wan Chai Development Phase II; Further Development of Tseung Kwan O Feasibility Study; the Penny's Bay Development to facilitate Hong Kong Disneyland Phase I; and the Study on Spa and Resort Facilities.
